KOTA KINABALU: Sabah plans to conduct a feasibility study to develop a space launch industry in the state.

This follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between three parties at the inauguration of the Sabah Science Awards (MASS) 2023 yesterday.

The signatories include the state Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, represented by permanent secretary Datuk Zainudin Aman; Sovereign Sengalang Sdn Bhd, represented by group managing director-cum-deputy chairman Mohd Ezra Effendi, and Yuzhnoye State Design Office, which is represented by Denys MyKhailiuk, who is the Charge d'Affaires ad interim at Embassy of Ukraine in Malaysia).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who witnessed the event, said: "If the feasibility study indicates positive outcomes, Sabah will have the potential to build a space launching facility and become the 16th space launch pad in the world.
